-Our sixth China Trip 2010

This is our 6th times return to China

Interview with Evelyn and Arthurs Roberts

Name: Evelyn & Arthur Roberts
Age: 59 & 63
From: UK
Purpose of Trip:
Chinese Medicine Study & Sightseeing
Visited Places:
Beijing, Wudang Mountains, Datong & Pingyao

Thanks for coming to China with SCIC Beijing!

1: Was this your first time in China?

2: Which trip were you participating there?
Beijing, Wudang Mountains, Datong & Pingyao

3: How long was your trip for?
20 days

4.  What did you think of China?
As this was our sixth year returning to China, and have now spent a total of 4 months 2 weeks in China. I think that tell you how much we like China and its history.

5. How were your local guides and SCIC Staff?
All the local guides and staff were good.

6. Any tips on getting the most from the Trip?
Go with the flow as they say. Just relax and enjoy every moment.

7. What did you learn on the TCM workshops? Did you enjoy them?
We continued our training in TCM which we have done for five years, working each year on the basic principles of TCM. This year was exceptionally good as we were able to go deeper into the subject which made the course even more interesting for us. We covered in more detail things that have an impact on our health, symptoms, diagnosis and treatments.  Because of our previous year's studying TCM we were able to understand the doctor teachings more easily and ask more relevant questions.  We hope to continue to learn and have a deeper understanding of what TCM has to offer the world, which has changed our outlook on western medicine since we have been studying TCM.

8. What did you think of Chinese food there?
The food is far better than what passes for Chinese food in the UK. Iím afraid that the western Chinese food is a poor seconded to the real deal.

9. What were the meals like on the trip?  And what was your favourite Chinese dish?
The meals did variety in standard but overall contained a good a variety of dishes. In poorer parts of the country the food became more basic with less choice but the food was fresh and very well cooked.

10. What was your accommodation like?
Accommodation in the poorer areas is basic but clean, not your 4 star hotel. However, we still had better accommodation than the majority of local people live in. The hotels in the city are like any city hotels, some are better than other but all are to a good standard for the traveller to rest in.

11. Have you made any friends on the trip?
Yes, we have meet people from different parts of the UK who have similar interests.

12. What is your favourite thing about the trip?
There are similar sightseeing views of the countryside outside China and you can meet Chinese people outside of China. If you are lucky the food can be experienced outside China too but seeing and learning about China's culture can only be really be done in China.

13. Why did you choose SCIC Beijing's Travel Program?
The first time we came to China it was with our Tai Chi club (TOA) and we have come back by ourselves ever since.

14. What benefits have you gotten from the Trip?
An understanding and an appreciation of Chinese culture which has help with our continuing study of Tai Chi.

15. Any tips for other visitors coming to China for study trips or holiday?
Yes, look at the holiday as an opportunity of a life time and enjoy and embrace every moment.
16. What other places or cities you would like to visit next time?
As we have done a lot of travelling in China and seen quite a lot of places we are not sure at this moment where we would like to visit next. However, we have always returned to China during spring but we would like to visit during autumn next time.

17. Will you come to China with SCIC Beijing again?
