-Train at Wudang mountain

3 weeks intensive training at Wudang Mountain

Name: Connor
From: Dedford England
Course Title: 4 weeks Wudang Kung Fu Course
Course Date: 28th Feb - 29th March 2011

My training trip began with a week of rest and sightseeing in Beijing in the company of Master Chen who would be looking after me for the duration of my stay in China. I was taken to some of the main historical attractions of Beijing including the Great Wall, The Temple of Heaven, The Summer Palace and the Forbidden City. I had the chance to go round the sights myself at my own pace and really sink into China's rich historical and cultural background which is ever present in the modern metropolis of Beijing. Although the week started off cold, it soon began to warm up and really bring the sights to life.

Hot Pot Night

Having decided to spend my time not eating western food, I was taken to many great restaurants to eat traditional Chinese cuisine ranging from the normal to the not so normal but still equally delicious, with the guiding hand of Master Chen to ease me into some dishes I would have otherwise avoided at my own loss. On my last day I had time to myself to go around Beijing and see what I could find, I decided to go to Wanfujin street to see the sights and shops of modern day China.

After this I was escorted to the train station and departed on the 19 hour comfortable soft sleeper train to Wudang. Upon arrival I was escorted back to the school and to my room by a representative of the school and shown the facilities. The timetable was dependant on what you wanted to do and learn:

 Tai Chi Group at Wudang

 Connor is on the class

 SCIC Group at Wudang School

General timetable at the school

06:00-07:00 Qi Gong
07:30-08:00 Breakfast
08:30-10:30/11:00 Morning training\
12:00 lunch
15:00-17:30 Afternoon training\
17:30-18:00 Dinner
19:00-21:00 optional evening training/meditation/lecture

Although the timetable seemed daunting, you soon acclimatize to the schedule and start to really enjoy it. The teachers are all top quality professionals with amazing skills in both Kung Fu and Tai Chi and picking up forms and skills is quick. Although sometimes the language barrier caused minor problems here and there, the coaching staff were always around to help, and Master Yuan was around and easily approachable if any help was needed. The food was good and simple and would provide you with the energy needed for the day ahead, shops and markets are only a 5 minute walk away so you are never too far away from resources if you need them. As part of the Wudang Taoist Kung Fu School you get to train in the Yuxu Temple everyday, which is something special. On Wednesdays we performed what we learned during the week to Master Yuan and had the rest of the day and Thursday off of training, allowing you to go into the picturesque Wudang Mountain range to take in the sights and the fresh air. As there were around 20 foreign students it was easy to make conversation and make new friends, this is also true of the local Chinese students who were constantly joking around with you and you really get to know them after a few weeks.

The teaching was impeccable and the hospitality was more than friendly, i will definitely be going again. After my 3 weeks came to an end I travelled back to Beijing to rest and relax before my flight home. The whole trip has been amazing thanks to the SCIC and their staff and it made the hustle and bustle of a long trip into one of ease and enjoyment.
