Splendid Guilin & Yangshuo

Guangxi Province, in the south of China, is a great place for tourists. Adjacent to the provinces of Yunnan to the west, Guizhou to the north, Hunan to the northeast and Guangdong to the southeast, visitors to Guangxi can easily cross into neighboring countries like Vietnam or Thailand. Guangxi is well-known for its beautiful countryside and relaxing atmosphere.

Reasons to visit:

Guangxi has attained a world-wide reputation for its picturesque scenic spots. Guilin in particular has become a popular tourist site in China, and the striking Karst scenery along the Li River down from Guilin to Yangshuo has meant the city becoming familiar to foreigners. There are also many attractions in the city itself, such as the Reed Flute Cave, Seven Stars Park and Fu Bo Hill. Visitors can experience the Dong and Zhuang minority villages in Longsheng and Sanjiang, and have an opportunity to taste the local food and enjoy the traditional singing and dancing performances. Also, do not miss the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces in Longsheng and the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge in Sanjiang.

  Yangshuo:
Yangshuo , a city with a history of more than 1,400 years, lies to the southeast of Guilin City, in the northeast of Guangxi Province. It is blessed with spectacular beauty and a traditional culture. There are several diverse minority groups here including Hui, Zhuang, Yao and others, enriching the province with various festivals. Tourists can also try delicious specialty foods such as Beer Fish, Niang dishes and special snacks including rice noodles and various glutinous rice cakes.

Li River:
Li River, a must-see in Guilin, is a beautiful place. Visitors can take a trip on a cruise boat and experience the fantastic scenery, bewitching peaks and relaxing green waters.

The Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbi Hill): this is located at the convergence of the Taohua (Peach Blossom) River and the Li River. The Moon-over-Water Cave and the Moon-through-Hill Cave comprise the distinctive Li River Twin Moons, with one moon over the water and the other in the sky.

The Reed Flute Cave: this cave is 5 km (3miles) from downtown in the northwest suburb of Guilin. There are beautiful caves and natural rural settings here. Within the Reed Flute Cave there are enchanting stalagmites and stone pillars, curtains and flowers. From as early as the Tang Dynasty, this cave has attracted many tourists, and there are 77 well-preserved murals left here as a reminder of their journey.

The Seven-Star Park: the largest and most popular park in Guilin and has the longest history. It is located on the bank of Li River, and gets its' name due to the seven peaks rising to the sky.

The West Street (Xi Jie): also called the 'Global Village'. Every year, numerous tourists from all over the world visit here. People from different countries run stores, cafes and restaurants adding exotic flavors to the street.

The Assembling Dragon Cave: found six kilometers (3.7 miles) south of Yangshuo County, at the foot of Ma Hill (Horse Hill) between Moon Hill and Big Banyan. It comprises the Black Cave and the Water Cave. It is the only Karst cave in Yangshuo with an amazing Karst landscape. The cave gets its name due to the surrounding peaks, like circling dragons, and the numerous stalactites with shapes suggesting images of dragons in different postures.

The Big Banyan: a tree planted during the Sui Dynasty (581-618). The Big Banyan has survived wind and rain over several centuries. The famous Chinese film 'The Third Sister Liu' was partly shot here.

The Xingping fishing village: this village has a history dating back over 500 years. Lying on the east bank of the Li River, upstream from Yangshuo, it was founded during the Ming Dynasty in 1506.

Moon Hill: a vast piece of rock with a round hole in its center, and you mount 800 steps on a marble paved mountain path to reach it. From different perspectives it resembles the new moon to a full moon.

The Above-water Park: named after the famous movie Liu Sanjie (Third Sister Liu). It is, virtually, a river reaching from Yangshuo County to Puyi Village. Located along the lower part of Li River, the park is 12 miles long and covers an area of 15 square miles on the adjacent riverbanks. Like any other tourist spots in Guilin, this park is noted for its amazing natural scenery.Visitors can see green mountains, limpid river waters, lush bamboo groves and still fields and gardens.
Local Specialities:

Food :
Guilin cuisine features a unique local flavor. It is celebrated for a wide use of ingredients and creative cooking. The dishes, light or rich in flavor, are fresh, tender, and refreshing. There is fish cooked in bamboo strips, chicken in paper, roasted suckling pig, fried young pigeon, stewed soft-shelled turtle in clear soup, and other dishes. The local snacks include rice-flour noodles from Guilin, luoshi rice-floor noodles from Liuzhou, lived-colored glutinous rice and sweetened, fried flour gruel.

Shopping :
Zhuang Brocade is a renowned traditional handicraft of the Zhuang ethnic group. Delicately woven and elegant in color, it stands wear and tear and has a novel design and strong national traits. Yao Embroidery is a traditional handicraft by women in the Yao ethnic tribe dwelling area. It is of fine workmanship, original in composition, bright in color and has a rich national color. Yao emboidery is extensively used as ornament to clothes, handkerchiefs, suspenders and window curtains.
